Valheim is full of creatures you can hunt, and even tame. Lox are large, wooly reptiles which can be pretty hostile – they’re not easy to kill, but they do have terrible vision and hearing so sneaking up on them can be pretty easy.
Lox meat provides an excellent health and stamina boost, and you can cook in to a Lox Meat Pie – and their pelts can be crafted in to capes and rugs. Read on to find out how to tame a Lox.
How to Capture a Lox
Before you go out to catch a Lox, you’ll want to build a stone enclosure in your base on the Plains – unlike boars and wolves, the Lox require a stronger enclosure so that they do not escape. You’ll need to build the enclosure with a small gap to lure the Lox into it, and also some stairs or a small platform by it so you can toss food in.
Once your enclosure is ready, you’ll need Barley and Cloudberries – both of which you can plant and cultivate so you have a steady supply. You can either lure the Lox into the enclosure by throwing the food inside and waiting for it to enter then pen, or you can lure it in using yourself as bait.
The second method is definitely more risky, since Lox can become quite aggressive and ram players – taking off a large chunk of health, and possibly even killing you – so we recommend having a strong shield, like the Serpent Scale Shield.
How to Tame a Lox
Once you’ve got the Lox inside the pen, close up the gap in the wall and then feed it plenty of barley and cloudberries for a few days to change its demeanour from aggressive to affectionate. When the Lox is 100% tamed you’ll see hearts above its head, and can enter the pen and pet it without risk.
At the moment, Lox cannot reproduce – however this may be introduced later, in which case capturing a second one will mean you have a steady supply of both Lox Meat and Lox Pelt.
