Student gauges
In addition to special events and the progression of the story, there will be 3 factors to watch for each of your students.
- Motivation: Represented by the ridiculous smileys in the interface, it will determine the number of lessons you can give to this student as well as their effectiveness. Solving their problems, encouraging them, and performing certain actions will increase their motivation. It is likely that certain events will have a significant influence on the latter.
- Bonds: Your positive actions and effectiveness in answering your students' questions or solving their problems will have an impact on their affection. This will probably have an impact on their motivation, and on the second part of the game, when it will be possible to start a romance (some will say that this was the primary objective). The level of the relationship also increases by fighting close to each other, which brings in addition to bonuses. However, not everything revolves around you, and your students also have relationship gauges between them. They can be increased in combat, or by participating in group activities. This will help you to form your dream couples and become the most immoral teacher in the academy.
- Characteristics & skills: We have gathered them into one category here, but in practice it is almost 20 different statistics that need to be improved. Since time will be a valuable resource, you will have to choose which ones to focus on and what direction to give your students based on these statistics. A character destined to become a magician does not need to increase his strength or sword control, for example.
The teacher is still a student
Byleth is not Superman (in general), he also has skill and weapon handling scores. The latter determine whether they are able to train students, and this will probably have an influence on the effectiveness of their courses. As a mercenary, it will be easier for him to give courses in swordplay than in theology. However, things are not fixed and some activities will also allow Byleth to develop her skills, sometimes at the same time as her students.
