The First Boss
Strategy
Before starting this fight, you should prepare yourself for a barrage of Frost attacks. Get ready for Sapphiron by equipping your best Frost resistance gear and drinking Greater Frost Protection Potions.
The strategy for this encounter isn't that complicated, as you use the same tactics for dragons in Classic. However, you'll still need to stay out of Blizzard and run behind the ice blocks at the right time. Healers are extremely important for this boss, and they'll have to stay alert to keep your fellow players from dying.
The Second Boss
Strategy
Recommended Composition:
- 6-7 Tanks
- 10-13 Healers
Like Sapphiron before him, you'll need a lot of Frost resistance to beat Kel'Thuzad. As this is the final boss, you'll need to use all resources available to you to provide max possible resistance.
Phase 1: Your raid should position themselves in the centre of the room, with pets being placed on passive so they don't draw unwanted aggro. Before you aggro the end boss, you should focus down the Soldiers & Soul Weavers in preparation for the final fight. You can even use your healers to speed up killing the adds. Be careful, as even a single hit from a Soldier may prove fatal. Communication is key here, as proper coordination will prevent your raid from taking too much damage. The more adds you kill, the faster Kel'Thuzad will appear, so be careful!
Phase 2: You must finish this phase very quickly to ensure that your healers have enough mana for Phase 3. One of you tanks should aggro the boss and pull him to the centre of the room, though be warned — Kel'Thuzad is immune to taunts. The positioning for this phase is the most difficult part of the encounter. You should have:
- Melee DPS in a diamond formation around Kel'Thuzad
- All other players in a circle around Kel'Thuzad
By spreading out, players will avoid being hit by as many attacks as possible, though you still need to be wary of Chains of Kel'Thuzad. This spell lets the boss mind control your tank, as well as 4 other players. DPS players should stop attacking whenever he starts casting this spell. All un-controlled players should attack Kel'Thuzad to free the other players from their mind control.
Be warned! Kel'Thuzad will use all his spells during this phase.
Phase 3: When the boss is reduced to 40% HP, Phase 3 will begin. Kel'Thuzad will plead for help from the Lich King, who will send five Guardians of Icecrown to his aid. Two Tanks should aggro the Guardians and try to focus them down, as they gain a buff which stacks for every dead player in your raid.
