Despite the recent delay to the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, the hype around the reimagining of this classic RPG continues to rise — and to celebrate the original game's release 23 years ago today, Square Enix have revealed even more.
A new trailer gives us our first taste of the official theme song for the game, composed by legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu and entitled 'Hollow'. The song is sung by Yosh Morita, vocalist for Japanese band Survive Said the Prophet.
Opening with a low-key acoustic guitar and harmonica combo, it's more of a ballad, with rather large shades of 'James Bond theme' about it. You can watch the full trailer below.
Don Corneo's Mansion
There's a lot to unpack from the trailer, which reveals a lot of previously unseen content.
Firstly, we have to talk about *that* scene. Fans had previously worried that the famous Don Corneo set piece would be cut from the Remake, and while we knew it would be included in some form thanks to previous trailers, we didn't know how it would be implemented.
Well, this trailer answers all those questions and more, with a significant portion of the nearly four-minute video dedicated to it. It looks like it'll be even bigger than before, with Cloud receiving lessons as part of a cabaret-style show at the Roaring Twenties-style Honey Bee Inn..
Shinra, Red XIII and Choco/Mog
The trailer also shows scenes within Shinra, featuring more of Heidegger, Scarlet, Reeve, and Palmer — who seems to really like his tea.
We also see a speaking part for Red XIII, Hojo drooling over his clone hypothesis while watching Cloud suffer on CCTV, and more battle footage — which, it must be said, looks clean and exciting. We also get to see a couple of summons — Leviathan briefly, and Choco/Mog in action. It's ridiculously cute.
Alongside the trailer, Square Enix also premiered a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary for the making of "Hollow", featuring Uematsu and the development team.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is scheduled for release, barring any further delays, on April 10, 2020.
