According to ESPN, SK Gaming jungler Kim "Trick" Gang-yun won't be eligible for League of Legends 2020 World Championship if his team qualifies because of oversight from both team and player.
Amid the pandemic situation, Riot Games decided to hold Worlds in Shanghai, in a controlled bubble environment that should ensure players and staff safety. Just like for every tournament, players from SK Gaming had to send their passport to Riot in order to vet for Chinese visas — which they did, at the end of July. However, officials discovered that Trick's passport had only six months before expiring, which prevents Trick from obtaining a visa.
Neither Riot nor SK communicated about the subject.
Admittedly, Trick won't make it to the Worlds' stage — but it's not even certain SK Gaming will manage to reach that step. Although they managed to qualify for LEC Playoffs, they're placed in the Losers' Bracket right at the beginning of the tournament.
Given the format of the competition, SK won't have a second shot and their Bo5 against Schalke 04 will be all the more decisive. Not to mention the fact they'll have to face a team which has won seven games in a row — and which is thus pumped by its victories...
Even if they manage to win that first game, they'll have to prevail in the two next matches if they want to secure one of the four seeds at stake this season...
