Nintendo VS announces Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Online Open October 2020

Nintendo continues to support its competitive communities with another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Online Open. They previously hosted ARMS, Splatoon, and Smash Bros tournaments on their official YouTube channel as part of the Nintendo Versus 2020 Tournament Series.

Have a smashing good time at the top of the bracket in your region to earn a gold-colored trophy. Twelve first prize winners will each receive silver-trophies, while forty-eight second prize winners will each receive 2,500 My Nintendo Gold Points. Every region's finals will be streamed on Nintendo's channel. Root for your favorite character, player, or just tune-in for some great matches.

Register for the October tournament on Battlefy to face off against other aspiring champions. Follow the instructions to determine your region, then register before time runs out:

  • Registration for Region 1 and Region 2 will end at 10:00 AM PT on October 24, 2020.
  • Registration for Region 3 and Region 4 will end at 10:00 AM PT on October 31, 2020.
  • Registration for Region 5 and Region 6 will end at 8:00 AM PT on October 31, 2020.
  • Registration for Region 7 and Region 8 will end at 8:00 AM PT on October 24, 2020.

  • 3 stocks
  • 7:00 time limit

  • Small Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Yoshi's Story
  • Pokemon Stadium 2

Format

According to Battlefy's tournament breakdown, players can fight as many opponents as they want during the 3 hour ladder period:

  • Region 1 and Region 2 will begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 24, 2020
  • Region 3 and Region 4 will begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 31, 2020
  • Region 5 and Region 6 will begin at 8:00 AM PT on October 31, 2020
  • Region 7 and Region 8 will begin at 8:00 AM PT on October 24, 2020

Rise to the top 32 of the ladder in your region to progress to a single-elimination, best-of-3 bracket on the same day:

  • Region 1 and Region 2 will begin at 2:00 PM PT on October 24, 2020
  • Region 3 and Region 4 will begin at 2:00 PM PT on October 31, 2020
  • Region 5 and Region 6 will begin at 12:00 PM PT on October 31, 2020
  • Region 7 and Region 8 will begin at 12:00 PM PT on October 24, 2020

The final four remaining players from the top 32 will advance to the Finals Round. The double-elimination finale takes place the next day:

  • Region 1 and Region 2 (“Group A”) will begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 25, 2020
  • Region 7 and Region 8 (“Group B”) will begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 25, 2020
  • Region 3 and Region 4 (“Group C”) will begin at 10:00 AM PT on November 1, 2020
  • Region 5 and Region 6 (“Group D”) will begin at 10:00 AM PT on November 1, 2020
