Originally slated for a 2020 release for both Android and iOS platforms, League of Legends: Wild Rift has now been pushed back into next year.
In the update, Chow revealed that the global COVID-19 pandemic has been a major reason for the delay, creating 'technical constraints' and preventing the team from travelling to set up server sites.
"We want the quality of the Wild Rift service to make the game shine for you," he said. "Rushing this isn't going to give you the experience you deserve, and might even put us in a situation where we would need to take down the game completely or reset your progress."
He assured fans that this would lead to a better end result in the long-run, and that Riot are actively looking for ways in which fans in these regions will not be left behind in terms of champion acquisition.
League of Legends: Wild Rift hits open beta for several regions from tomorrow, with Europe and Oceania coming later in the year.
