Tower of Fantasy is the latest RPG seeking to become a breakout hit. Developed by Chinese outfit Hotta Studio, it was revealed to the public in June 2020.
The question is, why are only hearing about it now? The answer is simple: Genshin Impact.
Should Tower of Fantasy prove to hold our attention, it will be in part because of the many comparisons that have been made between it and its global smash stablemate.
Will Tower of Fantasy become a hit in the West? Is it a rise in the trend for manga-inspired graphics? And above all, will the gacha system continue to be implemented in crossover RPGs such as Genshin?
Tower of Fantasy is an immersive open world with superb motion-capture cutscenes. A mix between immense freedom to explore, interactive puzzles and a real-time combat system, it is served by a complex story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic environment.
It's honestly far too early to judge if Tower of Fantasy is a "Genshin Impact-like". While the graphic style is similar from one game to the other, we must however note that the atmosphere of Tower of Impact doesn't look as dreamlike as that of Genshin Impact.
The game remains in development, currently undergoing a closed beta phase in China. We'll keep an eye on this one, and see where it leads us.
