With a population of 1.3 billion, India was a leading candidate when it came to opening up PokéStop requests in Pokemon GO.
This has now come to pass, after Niantic announced request functionality was operational in the country. This means that Indian Level 40 trainers will be able to suggest places of significant interest for the developers to use as PokéStops.
This system is regularly extended throughout the world. More recently, Latin America and Taiwan have seen the emergence of PokéStop requests.
This extension of the functionality is in line with Niantic's global policy of involving players in the establishment of a shared world, and a mapping that combines the virtual and real.
The concept was first introduced in Niantic's debut game, Ingress, through its Operation Portal Recon (OPR) system.
