Call of Duty League 2021: CDL unveils format for new season, PC, 4v4, Majors

As 2020 comes to an end and focus switches to 2021, the Call of Duty League (CDL) has revealed a brand-new structure ahead of the start of the Black Ops Cold War season.

Find all the changes that have been made along with everything you need to know about the 2021 season below.

Majors

One of the changes made for the 2021 season are the introduction of Majors. There will be a total of five Majors that take place throughout the season and will feature all 12 teams competing.

To determine the seeding for these events, three Home Series events will take place, with the placements ultimately deciding the seeding for the Majors. All 12 franchises will attend Home Series events.

CDL Points

Home Series placements and match victories will see teams earn CDL Points in a similar way to last season.

At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams in the standings will qualify for the CDL Post-season, where teams will attempt to be crowned 2021 champion.

A New Era

The 2021 CDL season marks a new era for Call of Duty esports. For the first time in its history, the top level of competition will be played on PC.

Soon after the conclusion of the 2020 season, it was also revealed that the esport would return to a 4v4 team structure after two seasons of 5v5 competition.

Opinion: More events that contain all 12 franchises is certainly a step forward from last year. It looks like the 2021 season is going to be one of the most competitive in history.

Franchises are in discussion with Activision to reduce entry fees to the CDL

According to The Esports Observer, Activision Blizzard is in talks to lower registration fees for Call of Duty League and Overwatch League teams.
