Although the focus is still on Black Ops Cold War, information surrounding the development of the next Call of Duty title is coming to light.
While Infinity Ward and Treyarch have shared development duties since 2018, rumors are suggesting that Sledgehammer Games could be back in the driving seat for the 2021 title.
Sledgehammer Games hasn't developed a Call of Duty title since the release of Call of Duty: World War 2 was a supporting studio for the release of Black Ops Cold War.
According to notable leaker Tom Henderson, Call of Duty 2021 will be developed by Sledgehammer once again.
The development cycle for the Call of Duty franchise has been shared since the release of Call of Duty 4 all the way back in 2007.
Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games usually share development duties but in 2020, things changed. After Infinity Ward developed the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare, Sledgehammer was expected to release its entry in 2020 but due to the "mess" it was in, Treyarch stepped in and developed Black Ops Cold War.
This information should be taken with a grain of salt but given the immense popularity of Advanced Warfare and World War 2, Sledgehammer Games has the potential to release another great Call of Duty title.
