While the PS5 and Xbox Series have been out since mid-November, few gamers have been lucky enough to get their hands on a next-gen console.
This is due to the very limited stock of consoles produced by Microsoft and Sony, but also because of scalping, a practice consisting of the purchase of many consoles at the time on the manufacturer's website with the help of bots and then reselling them with a huge margin.
In order to fight this unfair practice, the British Minister, Caroline Dinenage confirmed a bill on gaming equipment (automated purchase and resale) was currently being discussed. This bill aims to make Scalping illegal by punishing the resale of consoles purchased automatically.
The idea of this project is not new. Last December, Scottish MP Douglas Chapman proposed a similar motion. Although he himself admitted that this bill would probably not succeed, it would, according to him, force the British government to "assume its responsibilities" over this problem.
