There were rumors about a new Ubisoft shooter, and now it's official. Tom Clancy's XDefiant is the new free-to-play FPS from Ubisoft, and now we have a trailer giving us a glimpse into the development and gameplay.

Ubisoft San Francisco, developers of South Park: The Fractured but Whole, presented the ill-fated Hyper Scape just a few months ago — a failed attempt at at hopping on to the battle royale bandwagon. However, this new FPS, comparable to Call of Duty, aims to make up for it.

If anyone could sneak into the world of first person multiplayer shooters at this point, it would be Ubisoft. Tom Clancy's XDefiant is a frenetic arcade experience, addictive for those who really love the genre. You can check out the full trailer below:

What to Expect from Tom Clancy's XDefiant

With customisable classes, factions, diversity in game modes, a variety of weapons and skills to choose from; Ubisoft has created the complete FPS experience.

Like Call of Duty or Battlefield, players will be able to choose their primary and secondary weapons to fight on the battlefield, alongside selecting skills and ultras depending on the style of game they want to play.

Ubisoft has confirmed that players will have plenty of game modes to choose from — like Team Deathmatch, Domination, or even Escort.

When it comes to Factions, the developer said "XDefiant will initially present factions such as the Wolves (Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon), Echelon (Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell) and the Outcasts and the Cleaners (Tom Clancy's The Division), fighting in the most iconic settings. New Defiants will be added as the game evolves, always drawing on characters and abilities related to the Tom Clancy universe, and others."

Release Date

Tom Clancy's XDefiant will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Ubisoft Connect, Luna and Stadia, with the cross-play option available from launch and will be free to play.

The game isn't live yet, but players in the US and Canada will be able to take part in the closed test from August 5. You can sign up for updates and a chance to play early here
