It was last May that Sony announced a partnership with the instant messaging and VoIP (ie voice over IP) application, Discord .
A long-awaited feature
Discord voice integration on the PlayStation 5 has been a fan request for some time. If the collaboration between Sony and Discord was announced a few months ago, it was Microsoft and its Xbox Series X | S who were entitled to this feature first. Functionality which also integrates very well with the Xbox.
The integration of Discord allows more comfort, since you will not need to create PS Party to talk to your friends: you will be able to transfer your Discord calls from your computer/mobile to your PS5.
How it works
The screenshots, which were datamined notably by Twitter user advaith . These show the method to add the integration through the Discord mobile app .
Just follow these steps in the app: Sign in with your PlayStation account. Connect it to your PlayStation 5, then join the voice chat. Players can turn off in-game chat and use Discord channels, but this feature will of course not replace the PlayStation's native voice chat feature.
Be aware that the integration will not happen on the PS4. We have no other information at the moment, but Sony should say more about this collaboration very soon.
