In an unexpected move, Nintendo have revealed a new Smash Ultimate tournament series to take place across Europe.
Billed as the quest to find the region's top player, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Circuit will see seven events take place before a grand final sees the ultimate victor crowned.
The seven tournaments announced will take place largely at pre-existing events in the FGC. Those events are:
- Syndicate — October 25-27, 2019, Utrecht, Netherlands
- DreamHack Winter — November 28–December 1, 2019, Jönköping, Sweden
- Valhalla III — January 9-13, 2020, Copenhagen, Denmark
- DreamHack Leipzig — January 24-26, 2020, Leipzig, Germany
- Tech Republic V — March 6-8. 2020, Barcelona, Spain
- Icarus VI — May 2-3, 2020, Bologna, Italy
- Stunfest — May 11-17, 2020, Rennes, France
No further details have yet been released, such as prize pool, but the Grand Final will be held at DreamHack Summer, most likely in June 2020.
However, this is an exciting announcement for the Smash community, dreamhack given the fact that Nintendo is officially supporting the circuit — something they've not really gone all-in on in the past.
