Blizzard announced — via the official Korean website — that they have received the "Hanbok Love" certificate from the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in a ceremony on October 5, 2019 at Changdeokgung Palace.
This award is given to individuals or companies that value Korean culture around the world — something Blizzard has done on many occasions by regularly presenting many Korean-style content based on their traditional culture or folk tales.
These include Tracer Hong Gildong skin — representing the hero of a very popular novel in Korea — or Magistrate McCree and Sanye Orisa.
This award, for the D.Va Palanquin skin, represents the hanbok — a traditional Korean dress worn on special and formal occasions.
Hak Lee — one of the Korean developers who helped create D.Va Palanquin skin — wore a hanbok for the ceremony.
The "Hanbok Love" certificate is a prestigious award, given to a select few. Such an event suggests that the Overwatch universe is gradually becoming anchored in the real world.
In the past, South Korea had already honored Seoul Dynasty after their victory at the OGN Super Match in November 2017.
