Street Fighter fans knew something was coming, but likely didn't expect another full-game release.
At the conclusion of last night's North American Regional Finals, Capcom revealed Street Fighter V: Champion Edition — sure to be the complete edition of the game.
This edition, similar to Ultra Street Fighter IV, adds to the existing version of the game. Capcom have revealed that Champion Edition will contain the following:
- 40 characters in total
- 34 stages
- More than 200 costumes
- New V-Skill abilities for each character
With the current roster standing at 38, that means two more are incoming — and Capcom showed off the latest addition: Street Fighter III: New Generation big bad Gill — dropping in December.
The two-color leader of the Secret Society bears more than a resemblence to the electrifying Urien — which makes sense, given they are brothers. Their dynamic is heavily inspired by the Jesus-Judas story of the Bible, with Gill claiming to be the Messiah.
His gameplay also borrows from existing roster member Kolin — who acts as his secretary in SFIII.
This new version will contain all content Capcom has previously released for SFV, with the exception of costumes earned through Fighting Chance, promotional content (such as Red Bull costumes), and Capcom Pro Tour content.
Players who already own Street Fighter V will be given the option of upgrading to Champion Edition for $24.99, with the standalone version going on sale on February 14, 2020 for $29.99. Preordering will grant players all content already available, at the moment of purchase.
HotDog29 and NuckleDu take the glory at Regionals
The weekend saw the final tournaments before Capcom Cup take place, and it was an opportunity for movers and shakers to stake their claim for the season-ending event with a big performance in this Capcom Pro Tour dual event.
In the Open Tournament Super Premier, Hong Kong's Yeh Man "HotDog29" Ho took the plaudits and the 1000 CPT points on offer with a thrilling run through the likes of Punk and Problem X before forcing a Grand Final bracket reset against American player Du "NuckleDu" Dang — sending him into the top five in the CPT worldwide ranking.
However, in the North American Regional Finals, Du would take glory — marking an incredible weekend for the player who announced his impending fatherhood earlier in the week. He claimed a $50,000 first prize, and automatic qualification for the season finale in Los Angeles.
