For the upcoming Hearthstone expansion, Descent of Dragons, our French sister site had the honour of being able to reveal a card of the Shaman class.
Thanks again to Blizzard for trusting us with this major reveal!
Give a warm welcome to Nithogg!
A bit of lore
Nithogg is a storm drake. While most of the members of his brood decided to pledge allegiance to the titan guardians, he chose another path. Proudly assuming that his powers would eventually surpass those of the guards, he decided to settle in the Nastrondir Mountain and terrorized the entire region according to his desires. He was one of the World Bosses of World of Warcraft: Legion. He is now back on Hearthstone with his own brood!
Analysis
Thanks to his Battlecry, Nithogg will help you ensure a delayed board presence while threatening your opponent over two turns. When played on an empty board, it will force your opponent to use removal spells immediately. Since the two eggs will eventually hatch into two 4/4 Drakes with Rush, your opponent won't be able to answer the threat by building his own board. While they don't have Taunt, the two eggs will serve the same purpose because they will incite your opponent to destroy them as soon as possible.
However, Nithogg won't be a power-play if you're behind. The card itself doesn't bring tempo at all, and its stats won't help you regain dominance on the board. On the contrary, Nithogg is made to increase your advantage over the game. Play him when you're ahead, and you'll put your opponent into a very hard situation.
Bloodlust or Vessina will come handy to increase the overall attack of your board. If you play Nithogg on turn 10, you'll also be able to play Mogu Fleshshaper on the same turn, which means you could immediately trade one of you opponents threat to get the most value out of your eggs!
