While the Ballon d'Or was the focus of attention at the beginning of the week, Marco Van Basten was a hot topic on the web — and for good reason. The renowned former AC Milan striker made headlines this morning following his more than clumsy outburst on the Dutch channel Fox Sports.
Following an interview with Frank Wormuth — coach of Dutch club Heracles Almelo — Marco Van Basten indulged in a joke in bad taste, making fun of his German colleague conducting the interview.
After using the "Sieg Heil" sentence used by the Nazis to greet each other, the former Dutch attacker was suspended from his position as a consultant for a week.
But that's not all — EA Sports have also decided to react to Fox Sports' actions.
This means Marco Van Basten's Icon cards are no longer available in packs, SBCs or in Draft on FIFA 20 until further notice.
What does this mean for players who already have the Dutch striker in their club? Well, there's no need to panic — existing cards have not been removed.
Nevertheless, as very often, this has affected the transfer market — with players quick to try and claim a monopoly on the two affected cards.
On Tuesday morning, the price of the Dutch striker's second version had almost doubled on PS4. Fortunately, the phenomenon doesn't appear to be permanent. As stated in the press release, this decision is not final.
