The story of Monster Hunter Rise centres on a small Japanese-inspired village. Here's our guide to its colourful inhabitants, its fortress, and its hordes of monsters.

Monster Hunter Rise: Kamura Village

The art direction and themes of Monster Hunter Rise are heavily inspired by medieval Japan and its folklore. The small village of Kamura is a good example of this. It follows the doctrines of the Hunters' Guild with its 14 weapons, Palicoes, Hunters, and quests.

Facilities

The place may be modest, but it has everything you need right from the start, starting with a tea room serving as a Canteen, a forge for the hunter, and another for your buddies. A general merchant also sells general supplies.

Kamura will also serve as a host for multiplayer sessions. Up to four hunters will be able to meet in the same village to chat and arm wrestle.

Characters

The village exists mainly through its inhabitants, you can discover the main ones in our presentation guide. However, there are many more, such as the Palico letter carrier, the companion armor smith as well as normal inhabitants, and other hunters who do not have the power of the "main character".

Story & Calamity

"Calamity" is a tragic event in which countless monsters attack the village. The people of the village live in constant fear of this catastrophe, but no one knows why or how it happens. Kamura has been the victim of the Calamity several times, and the one that hit the village 50 years ago almost wiped it off the map. The villagers train every day to prevent this tragedy from happening again, and they have built a sturdy Fortress for the next invasion."

There is no doubt that the main role of your character will be to investigate the Calamity, to prevent it or to hold it back, and finally to go and kill or capture the monster(s) responsible for it. However, we are not immune to a good surprise. Magnamalo is the main suspect, but there is always a real final boss hidden in Monster Hunter.

The Fortress is a different area from the Kamura Village — it is suitable for combat and siege weapons are laid out on the premises. It is unlikely that a mission will take place directly in the village.
