LoL Guide: Anivia Mid S11 — Build, Runes, Tips and Tricks

Our Season 11 Mid Lane Anivia guide features recommendations on rune choices, itemisation, tips and tricks, and more. Be advised that these guidelines are not rigid, and that nothing is set in stone as in-game circumstances (i.e. lane matchup, enemy team composition, enemy team advantages or lack thereof) may lead you to adapt and tweak your approach, particularly after your core build is complete.

Runes

BUILD 1 - League of Legends
BUILD 1

Electrocute and Cheap Shot are easy to trigger as Anivia, and it becomes even easier to do so once you unlock R - Glacial Storm. The combination of these two choices allows Anivia's burst to pack a punch.

Ravenous Hunter provides sustain over time and throughout the game, its effectiveness increasing over time, despite its diminished efficiency on AoE spells.

Presence of Mind increases your mana regeneration whenever you attack an enemy champion, restoring 15% of your maximum mana upon killing them or assisting in their demise. This rune is Anivia's lifeline in the early-game.

Coup de Grace increases your damage on opponents under 40% health, a matter you can easily reach through a combo.

Summoner Spells

Below are the two most summoner spells that Anivia players use for the majority of their games. Variations are possible depending on your playing style, match-up requirements, etc. For instance, Ignite is a possibility for more aggressively-minded players.

Frostfire

  • Liandry's Anguish allows mages to melt through enemy health bars, a crucial factor in extended team fights. As Anivia excels in extended teamfights, this item can be particularly effective on her, covering for her lack of mobility and mana issues. The item also tends to the champion's mana issues, be it through the Lost Chapter component while leveling or in its final form.
  • Archangel's Staff requires its users to charge it by using spells, increasing the champion's mana pool in the process until it evolves into Seraph's Embrace. The item is ideal for mana-hungry mages, of which Anivia is one. Do not forget to buy Tear of the Goddess upon your first recall.

Sharp Frost

  • Luden's Tempest provides burst damage to mages in addition to added mobility, both of which help during team fights. With this item, Anivia can drop squishy opponents in one combo.

Skill Sequence

In this section lies our recommendations on skill priority for Anivia. Depending on the situation, you may sometimes wish to prioritize a different spell.

R > E > Q > W

Gameplay

Laning phase

Anivia's early-game burst may be noteworthy, but her mana resources are limited. Therefore, Anivia players need to acquire items to compensate that issue as fast as possible—mainly Tear of the Goddess and Lost Chapter. As such, your secondary Summoner Spell choice is determinant: Teleport allows you to get back to lane instantly after shopping for an item in your base, whereas Ignite increases your kill threat overall, particularly in the early levels.

Your Passive - Rebirth allows you to survive situations that would have ended in certain death on other champions. On top of that, its turnaround potential is high should your opponent be unable to fight back after using their burst combo, or should Anivia assume Eggnivia form under tower.

Team fights

Anivia's presence is especially felt during the mid game and late game stages. Beyond her limitless wave clearing power upon obtaining her core items, Anivia can greatly contribute to siege situations, to objective control (especially with her wall, W - Crystallize as she can zone opponents off a specific entry point), and to fending off sieges. In addition, the champion's damage output on neutral objectives is monstrous.

Nevertheless, Anivia players are to pay attention to their surroundings, especially once their spell combo is on cooldown. Speaking of which, her Q - Flash Frost can pin targets down and set them up for an easy kill, especially if they are within a short range as it can stop an assassin dead in its tracks.

Tips & Tricks

  • Remember that the damage of E - Frostbite is doubled when the target is frozen, i.e. after being hit by Q - Flash Frost or R - Glacial Storm.
  • Your Passive - Rebirth can be a good way to bait an enemy if your allies are nearby.
  • W - Crystallize can interrupt channeled spells such as Teleport, as well as a non-negligible number of movement-based spells (dashes/jumps) if used at the right time.
  • W - Crystallize also serves as terrain for spells that interact with natural terrain (e.g. Vayne's E - Condemn stuns targets that are pinned against Anivia's wall).
