Ditto is the only Pokémon capable of copying other creatures, and as such is one of the most important Pokémon in the franchise.
One reasons is that it's possible to have Ditto mate with most other Pokémon — with the only exceptions being Mythical and Legendary Pokémon, and those which explicitly cannot reproduce.
Why should I obtain a Ditto from a different country?
If you're a shiny hunter, you've probably heard of the Masuda method.
Taking advantage of this method allows you to hatch eggs with a certain chance of obtaining a shiny version of the Pokémon you want — 1/512 chance with Shiny Charm, and 1/683 without.
This is where the foreign Ditto comes in.
The method consists of producing eggs whose parents are of different nationalities.
This guide will be useful, as it will allow you to obtain a Pokémon that can replace any other creature in the Pokémon universe, as long as it can reproduce.
How to get a foreign Ditto
There are several ways to obtain a foreign Ditto.
- First of all, the easiest way is to have a friend who owns the game in another part of the world, then trade with them to get a Ditto with a different acronym than yours — [JAP] for example.
- The second option requires you to use social networks, websites or forums to ask players to trade with you, making sure the Ditto is of a different nationality than your version of the game.
- Wait for the Pokémon HOME feature to be released, then bring a foreign Ditto over from an earlier generation game via different means (such as the Surprise Trade).
- Get lucky and find a Ditto in Surprise Trades, or by launching a network exchange and running into a person to trade with. For this technique, it's possible to use the network trade and enter the code 4448 to maximize the chances of encountering foreigners exchanging their Ditto.
