Ever since the release of Modern Warfare, there have been talks of a brand-new battle royale mode arriving in the Call of Duty franchise. There have been several leaks and rumours surrounding the potential of a BR being added to Modern Warfare throughout 2019.
Now we are in 2020, the rumour mill is still going despite no official confirmation from Infinity Ward, Activision and rumoured battle royale developers, Raven Software.

Potential Release Date
Rumours pointed towards a release early in 2020 but as of writing (January 2nd) there has been no sign of any release on the horizon.
What Do We Know?
According to various rumours and leaks, the Modern Warfare battle royale features many of the features from Blackout, Treyarch's take on a Call of Duty battle royale. The new BR is set to have 200 players dropping into a single game. This number may seem a lot but it does make sense given that the rumoured map is said to be three times bigger than the Blackout map.

Respawn Tokens & The Gulag
Like Fortnite and Apex Legends, the Modern Warfare BR is said to have a respawn mechanic. Respawn tokens can be looted but after a single use, players are no longer able to use them.
In order to respawn a teammate, players must have a token and drop the body of their teammate near an ambulance. Once the body is near the ambulance, the downed player will enter the Gulag, a 1v1 shootout between another downed player. If you win, you get back into the action! Once the player has landed back into the game, they must find a mobile armoury to retrieve their loadout.
At some point during a game, The Gulag will closed, preventing anymore respawns to occur during a game.
Locations
It is likely that players will see many familiar locations from the Modern Warfare franchise included on the map. According to VGSources, the PC files of the game have shown locations and a list of loot items too. Below is a full list of leaked locations:

Plunder
What will separate the Modern Warfare BR from its rivals is the inclusion of a cash mechanic known as Plunder. Plunder is used to open supply drops to acquire new cosmetic items. Players will earn plunder from eliminating opponents but they must deposit that cash at an ATM to secure it. If you were to be taken out before banking the cash, the money would be gone but if you manage to score a victory with the cash on your person, you might be in line for a massive bonus at the end of the game.
According to leaks on Reddit, the plunder can be converted into XP points by depositing the cash into the ATMs that are located all over the map.
Loot
Like most battle royale titles, loot often comes in different levels of rarity. The Modern Warfare BR is no different, with loot being ranked from White (being the lowest quality) to Gold (being the best)
Loot rarity: White, Green, Blue, Purple, Gold
The BR will include all the attachments, perks,field upgrades and killstreaks from the multiplayer mode alongside features exclusive to the mode.
There are three different levels of armour. According to a Reddit leak, here are the different levels:
- Helmet LVL 1: Reduces headshot damage by 30 Reduces the effect of Flash and Concussion grenades
- Helmet LVL 1: Reduces headshot damage by 30
- Helmet LVL 1: Reduces headshot damage by 15
- Ballistic Vest LVL 1: Absorbs 50 damage
- Ballistic Vest LVL 2: Absorbs 150 damage
- Ballistic Vest LVL 3: Absorbs 150 damage and increases healing item usage by 25
Opinion
With so many rumours circulating, the battle royale mode for Modern Warfare could well be released sooner rather than later. The release of such a mode could be the saving grace of Modern Warfare, a game that promised a return to a traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience, but has failed to deliver so far.
