Minccino and Darumaka finally land in Pokémon GO on January 24, as part of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Here are the details of the Limited Research event, quests, and more.

Nǐ hǎo! Chinese New Year is just four days away! For the occasion, an ultra-kawaii Pokémon will make its appearance — Minccino!

The event will take place from Friday, January 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, February 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8).

LUNAR NEW YEAR EVENT 2020

For two years now, Pokémon GO has celebrated the arrival of the Chinese New Year with a special event. In 2018, for the Year of the Dog, we had increases in spawns of Growlithe, Snubbull and Poochyena, and in 2019, lots of Spoink for the Year of the Pig.

For 2020, under the sign of the Rat, the Pokémon Minccino is in the spotlight! This is also the first time it will have appeared in the game.

In addition to Minccino, "red" Pokémon are also in the spotlight this year. So you'll be able to find more:

  • Charmeleon, Vulpix, Parasect, Voltorb, Jynx, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Corphish, Kricketot, and Foongus in the wild!
  • Shiny Gyarados in the wild,
  • Darumaka from 7 km Eggs

New Year Bonus

  • Rare Candies in Gifts,
  • Likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends will be increased
  • Increased chance to have Lucky Pokémon.

Please note that this event is only available on Sunday, February 2 from 2 to 5 pm.

  • Make X Nice Throws
  • Make X Nice Throws in a row
  • Make X Super Throws
  • Make X Super Throws in a row
  • Make X Curved Throws
  • Fight in a Gym
  • Fight in a raid
  • Use a Super Effective Charge Attack in Gym
  • Catch a Patrat or Bidoof
  • Catch a Pikachu, Plusle or Minun
  • Catch a Rattata or Sentret
  • Catch X Pokémon of Normal type
  • Use 3 Berries to Catch a Pokémon
  • Beat a Team GO Rocket Henchman
  • Spin X Pokéstops

This will then allow you to get a lot of Minccino candies, and thus get his second evolution, Cinccino. Be careful though, you need a Unova stone to make it evolve.

In addition to the special studies for Minccino, other bonuses will be available on this day:

  • Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Sentret, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, Bidoof, and Patrat will have increased spawns,
  • Minccino in 5km eggs,
  • Shiny Minccino will be available !

Pokemon GO: Latias and Latios return in Raid for a special Weekend event!

For a limited time, the two legendary birds will be back on Pokémon GO. At the end of January, you'll be able to battle and catch Latias and Latios.
