It's not a big surprise, but it's now official: instead of taking place in Cologne, the Gamescom 2020 will be organized online.
Some might point out that the event was only supposed to happen in four months — plenty of time to deal with the coronavirus epidemic. However, the German government decided to ban all gatherings until the end of August. This ultimate decision came to seal the fate of the Gamescom 2020. In any case, the team behind the event maintains anyway that they do not wish to risk the health of their visitors.
However, they're currently working on a dematerialized version of the Gamescom and will communicate about it in the upcoming weeks.
Doing so, the Gamescom is following the track of the E3 — except that the American event was eventually canceled. In a similar way, the PS5 and the Xbox Series X announcement were also made online.
With regard to entry tickets, Gamescom undertakes to reimburse all tickets. More information will be available in the coming days to find out about the reimbursement process.
