The aiming assist in Fortnite is the talk of the town. After each competition, the complaints of PC players can be heard on social networks, against the controller aim assist — accused of giving too great an advantage to its users.
FNCS Week 2 reopened the controversy. In question, a top of the leaderboard made up almost entirely of controllers players on the East American server. Team Liquid's pro player, Stretch, expressed his surprise on Twitter:
For some players, seeing so many controllers in the Top 10 is significant. The aiming assist would be too much of an asset, especially when the player enters the box with a well-made machine pistol.
Famous American players also spoke out, denouncing a controller-only feature that would "ruin the experience of keyboard/mouse players". This is the case of Tfue for example, author of a murderous tweet this weekend against the aim assist:
Epic Games has been trying to resolve this tension between controllers and keyboards for several months now. In March, the publisher put a stop to the aim assist Legacy, which concerns long-range shooting. At the end of April, the publisher announces via the weekly patch a nerf of the aim assist. However, the effort is considered insufficient by many professional players.
It remains to be seen what Epic Games will bring in future patche notes, and especially if the editor plans to split the competition into two separate divisions.
