Legends of Runeterra is entering the Season of Fortune with Patch 1.4!
Alongside the three next update cycles, several big features will be implemented into the game, completely changing the way we're perceiving CCG.
Just like they promised during the alpha, LoR will adopt a new pace to deploy new content in the upcoming year, with a new expansion ever four months, and new cards added to the game every two months.
Each season will offer many new features, beyond the new cards. The goal is to give them their own identity so that a new season offers different ways to play.
Although we don't know yet exactly what Riot Games are planning, they shared their roadmap...
Patch 1.4 — Gauntlets
Gauntlets are limited-time competitive modes with unique deckbuilding rules. Gauntlets go live every weekend for about four days total, with weekly swaps between formats in the rotation.
The first Gauntlet begins June 26 and will use standard deckbuilding rules as we test-drive the underlying tech; a second type of Gauntlet, Singleton, joins the rotation on July 3, and will challenge you to build a deck using no more than one copy of each card.
Conqueror Icon
By starting a Gauntlet run, you'll be rewarded with a special Icon, but you'll also unlock a more unique one by actually winning all seven games.
Although Patch 1.4 will focus on the introduction of Gauntlets, it will also bring several card balance changes, as well as an update of the ranked system.
All of these changes will be detailed in a further patch note.
Patch 1.5 — Labs
"Where Gauntlets are aimed at the competitive experience, Labs are all about variety, experimentation, and maybe a little chaos."
Labs are made for experimentation, and their rules will change with each new patch — a bit like the Tavern Brawl in Hearthstone.
The first Lab, A.R.A.M., will be made available on July 8, alongside Patch 1.5
Patch 1.6 & 1.7 — Events
Following the implementation of these two new game modes, Riot Games will focus on in-game events. Patch 1.6 will kick off Legends of Runeterra's first in-game event: "a month-long thematic experience featuring a new Lab, special quests, personalization items, and more."
The event will continue into Patch 1.7 with more quests and store content, as well as a new Lab and a new twist on the Singleton Gauntlet format.
