Twitch, the preferred platform for gamers to broadcast their games live, will open a new category for traditional sports.
The Amazon platform has unveiled its strategy in an official press release, to be found below. It states that a new channel (/twitchsports), visible on the front page, will allow all sports to be featured. Previously, most of the broadcasts were in the "Fitness and Health" category, which was not necessarily optimal.
Twitch, the world's leading live entertainment platform, today announced the launch of a new sports channel accessible on the home page. The Sports category has experienced considerable growth in recent months. Today, the "Sports" category will have a dedicated "/ twitchsports" channel in order to better follow all the programming available to all sports fans on the platform. For the channel launch, Twitch will be working with four of the world's biggest football clubs. Real Madrid and Arsenal recently started broadcasting on their new Twitch channels, and they will soon be followed by Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. Each of the clubs will produce exclusive and interactive content and experiences to bring their supporters around the world closer to these iconic organizations and their athletes. Recently, Olympique de Marseille broadcast live on Twitch two friendly matches: it was a first for a Ligue 1 club. The first match brought together nearly 300,000 fans! These top clubs will join a growing list of leagues on Twitch, including the NBA, NFL, NWSL, RFL and UFC. High performance athletes will also be streaming, whether it's Los Angeles Charger Austin Ekeler, F1 talent Lando Norris, or WWE Superstars Rusev, Paige, and Cesaro. There will be something for everyone !

However, this isn't really new. For many years now, Twitch, and especially Amazon since its takeover in 2014, has been strongly interested in "classic" sports in order to diversify its offer.
The US giant recently acquired the rights to a few Premier League games , unfortunately only available in the UK at the moment. In addition, Amazon recently obtained the rights to some Roland-Garros matches as early as 2021. To date, it's expected that only Amazon Prime members can benefit from them, but it's not excluded that the retail giant makes it possible to broadcast a few games on Twitch.
