For how massive CS:GO is in Brazil, the ESL One Major was due to be the first Major to have ever been hosted in the country. The cancellation also marks the first year that there hasn't been a single Major take place.
However, with the current situation trending towards more outbreaks of the coronavirus worldwide, In a statement, ESL said they had done everything possible to try and hold the event, but to no avail:
"We worked through several alternative options down to the last hour to make the Major a reality, but ultimately have to face the fact that the global situation currently does not allow for a Major to take place."
The organiser also pledged to bring the Major to Brazil as soon as it was safe to do so.
The next event on the ESL calendar, Intel Extreme Masters New York, has already been moved to an online format. Taking place from 6-25 October, the tournament will be split into three regions — Europe, North America, and CIS — and will feature 32 teams in total.
$250,000 will be on offer for that event in total, and will offer teams ESL Pro Tour ranking points for IEM Katowice 2021 qualification and Regional Major Ranking points for both NA and CIS.
