Danish League of Legends top laner Mathias "Szygenda" Jensen might be joining Team Vitality's 2021 League of Legends European Championship (LEC) roster, according to a report by ESPN Esports' Jacob Wolf.
If confirmed, Szygenda would be replacing Lucas "Cabochard" Simon-Meslet, who has played with Team Vitality since their entry into the League of Legends scene in the 2016 season. The Dane would be filling the void left behind by an in-game leader with a versatile champion pool.
To that effect, the top laner has proven that he was among the best prospects overall in the European Masters circuit as a member of Rogue's academy team, AGO Rogue. With a patch-compliant champion pool that includes Camille, Gangplank, Renekton, Sion, Volibear, Mordekaiser, Shen and others, Szygenda contributed to AGO Rogue's success, proving himself to be manageable in the process.
The team dominated the Polish Ultraliga, winning in the spring split and losing the finals in the summer — both instances against K1CK Neosurf. The team also performed well at the EU Masters, dropping in the semifinals of the spring split before going on a rampage and winning the summer event, dropping only two games in the process.
Szygenda's move to Team Vitality would bring the organization's offseason close to a conclusion, as they still need to tend to AD carry Markos "Comp" Stemkopoulos's expiring contract. Unless Team Vitality transfer players away, the top laner would be joining junglers Cantoursna "Nji" An and Duncan "Skeanz" Marquet, mid laner Aljoša "Milica" Kovandžić, and support Labros "Labrov" Papoutsakis.
The top laner would not be the sole member of his team to move to the LEC: according to another report by ESPN Esports, support Adrian "Trymbi" Trybus is set to be promoted to Rogue's main squad. In addition, Paweł "Czekolad" Szczepanik's stock has tremendously risen as he crushed his competition in the mid lane, proving himself to be LEC-ready in the process.
