As reported by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Tomaszkiewicz sent an email to staff informing them of the decision, along with his apology. According to this email, the resignation was agreed with the board of CD Projekt Red, which saw shares fall 2.5% as a result of the news.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt proved to be a massive success for the Polish developer, with Tomaszkiewicz leading the project. Nominated for countless awards, it has sold over 30 million units and arguably helped CDPR become one of the biggest names in the industry - and according to Bloomberg, Poland's most valuable company.
Tomaszkiewicz was also second director and head of production on troubled title Cyberpunk 2077, which faced a controversial launch and was ultimately pulled from the PlayStation Store as a result of its considerable technical issues on Sony's PS4 console. It continues to be unavailable.
With Tomaszkiewicz expected to play a major role in the developer's next Witcher game, he was quoted by Bloomberg as being 'sad, a bit disappointed and resigned' at the end of his tenure with the firm. He has also pledged to change his behaviour.
