A few months ago, it was announced that PlayStation and RTS acquired the Evolution Championship Series (also known as "EVO"), perhaps the biggest Fighting Game celebration of all time.
Today we have more news about how the event will be managed by Sony. For starters, the official EVO competitions will take place between August 6 and 8 and from August 13 to 15. Participants can already register themselves here.
However, before the official show, the brand new Evo Community Series will be presented. From June 10 to August 3 there will be more than 120 tournaments and a total amount of $74,000 in prices. The interesting part is that PlayStation will be hosting three of these tournaments, from which the company will broadcast selected matches on their official YouTube and Twitch channels.
The first of the tournaments is called "FGC Arcade: Evo Edition" and it will feature Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and Tekken 7. It will take place between June 10 and 22 with a global prize pool of $20,000. The selected regions are North America and Europe.
Then, "Evo 2021 Online Warm-up" will be live from June 26 to July 13. The featured titles for this one are almost the same: Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition and Tekken 7. There's a $19,000 global prize pool and the supported regions are North America, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia.
Finally, "Evo 2021 Online Side Tournaments" will feature the biggest global prize pool ($35,000) and more team-based Fighting Games: BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost ON, Skullgirls 2nd Encore, Soulcalibur VI, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]. The third tournament will take place between July 8 to August 3 and people from North America, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia and Japan can participate.
