League of Legends: Season 11
The least popular champions in League of Legends

A hierarchy of champion popularity is not surprising in League of Legends, but there are major differences at each rank. Here are the least popular champions at each rank.

The least popular champions in League of Legends

With the introduction of Akshan, the champion roster in League of Legends will reach a whopping 156 characters. While wide-ranging and impressive, not all of the champions succeed equally.

Some may only been seen once in a hundred games, while we may have forgotten entirely the last time we saw others in our ranked games.

Least Popular Champions: A Matter of Rank

Unpopular champions aren't evenly distributed throughout the different ranks. You'll see champions that are popular in lower ranks never seen in the higher ranks, and vice versa.

The distribution is most curious. Here are the three least popular champions for each rank:

Rank

Champions

Iron

Taliyah , Skarner, Lissandra

Bronze

Taliyah, Ivern, Skarner

Silver

Taliyah, Aurelion Sol, Skarner

Gold

Taliyah, Aurelion Sol, Skarner

Platinum

Skarner, Taliyah, Aurelion Sol

Diamond

Heimerdinger, Skarner, Shyvana

Master +

Amumu, Illaoi, Shyvana

Although there are constants, such as Skarner, there's a greater difference as we climb the ranks. A good example is Taliyah, who features in just 0.5% of games in the lower ranks, but appears three times more in Diamond or higher at 1.62%, and with a winrate of 53.65%.

It also highlights how little importance less skilled players place on utility-based champions. Skarner, Lissandra, Ivern, and Aurelion Sol appear across the different ranks, with players preferring champions with fewer strategic options such as Heimerdinger or Illaoi.

The League community often speculates that the experience is different based on skill level, and the statistics seem to constantly confirm this.
