The players of Elden Ring, the latest game from FromSoftware are among the most inventive, that's for sure. Speedrun level, the community is also more than surprising, and some Shardless manage to finish the game, not without glitches however, in less than 6 minutes. The latest record in the "Any%" category, using glitches and other texture bugs, was achieved by seeker, a French speedrunner in 5 minutes and 58 seconds! Since then… no more records, in this category and in (almost) all the others. Has the Elden Ring speedrun reached its limits?
The Any% in bad shape
If you're wondering what "Any%" speedrun is, it's all about reaching the end of the game, no matter how complete you are. For this are therefore (most of the time) used many glitches. As soon as Elden Ring was released at the end of February, speedrunners around the world challenged themselves to finish the game as quickly as possible, and all shots were clear!
As time went by, bugs and other ashes of cheated wars were exploited and the records were linked. Thus, some speedrunners like Mitchriz, seeker or the now famous Distortion2 have established themselves as the kings of FromSoftware speedrunning. The most popular categories for speedrunning enthusiasts in the Underworld were the "Any%" categories, such as "Any% Unrestricted" or "Any% No Wrong Warp".
While not long ago, it was possible to observe on the speedrun.com site a record per minimum day, today it is very empty...
The last record recorded by the site dates back more than a week, in each category in "Any%" . Only the "All Remembrances" category, which involves facing and defeating all the main bosses in the game, remains updated more often, with a record every 3 days lately.
But then, why?
The reasons are quite numerous and Elden Ring being quite recent, it is still the target of updates aimed at fixing the bugs, used by speedrunners. Patch 1.03 had been a real blow for fans of the discipline in particular because it had considerably reduced the effectiveness of a key ash of war for the speedrun, the Freezing Stomp. It is therefore necessary for them to be inventive and constantly find new flaws to exploit for their run.
Also, it could well be that the time limits for the Elden Ring speedrun have been reached. The "Any% Unrestricted" seeker record of 5:58 is quite a feat and it is quite possible that it will be very difficult to do less… in this category! Fans of speedruns will therefore be reassured because if the "Any%" seems neglected, other categories will undoubtedly appear. We can't wait to discover them!
