Vanguard too disappointing? Modern Warfare 2 could change it all

Unfortunately, what had to happen did happen, and while it was no secret, Call of Duty: Vanguard didn't have the effect Activision and Sledgehammer Games were hoping for. According to an annual report from the giant studio, the title based on the Second World War has indeed cooled more than one.

Vanguard did not meet Activision's expectations

Long before its release, and following its few beta phases, Call of Duty: Vanguard had only very moderately convinced Call of Duty players , and when it was released on November 5, 2021, success did not not been there.

According to Activision 's annual report (via CharlieIntel ), Vanguard didn't sell hugely, for several reasons.

According to the studio, Vanguard did not really bring any innovations to the license, and the context chosen for this title did not have the desired effect since the period of the Second World War has already been seen and reviewed in the various Call of Duty titles .

As a result, Activision is focusing more than ever on the next games, namely Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but also on its next Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

All hopes pinned on Modern Warfare 2

At a time when the numbers are not really good, the hopes of players but also developers are naturally turned to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Recently made official by Infinity Ward , Modern Warfare 2 should, according to Activision, be the most successful game of the entire franchise . Direct sequel to Modern Warfare published in 2019, we should find there, according to the various clues left on social networks, the character of Ghost.

Separately, Activision has also formalized the development of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 , also with Infinity Ward at its helm. According to the various press releases we have had over the weeks, Warzone 2 will "start from scratch" and will not depend on any Call of Duty game.

According to Battle Royale director Patrick Kelly , Warzone's first name began to show its weaknesses when it joined Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. When integrating Vanguard, things only got worse.

The goal for the developers is therefore now to offer a brand new Battle Royale and above all to avoid making the same mistakes again.

We should soon have news of these two games which are now eagerly awaited by the Call of Duty community.
