When it comes to taking restrictive measures, China is never far away , and the various studios have understood this! If the Chinese government censors everything that can frighten or disturb players, it was last August that we announced that the latter had put in place new measures to protect minors with regard to the use of game consoles and their usage time .
If the underage population has therefore seen its playing time drastically decrease, the recent measures once again concern screen time , but also the portfolio of these young players vis-à-vis the streamers they watch .
The Chinese government once again tightens its restrictions
If this turns out to be a real relief for the parents of our young Chinese players, it is however heartbreaking for them, but it takes what it takes! Since the weekend of May 7, the Chinese government has therefore put in place new restrictions which are already in effect, including two new rules:
- More donations for the streamers they follow.
-
No more viewing after 10 p.m.
Through these new laws, the high authority hopes to curb what it describes as financial drift since, as we can imagine, and this is also valid for other young players around the world, but most of the time when one of them donates to their favorite streamer, it's usually behind their parents' backs, and with their parents' money. And in some cases, this is a little more serious since the minor has developed a real addiction.
Although we might have thought that platforms like Twitch and YouTube were affected by these new rules, this is not the case since it is actually so-called local platforms with Bilibili, Huya&Douyu and finally Douyin, the Chinese TikTok .
If TikTok is the door to all the excesses among our young people, the Chinese version which is therefore Douyin has already established certain rules for minors, with in particular a viewing time limit which has been set at 40 minutes for under 14 years old.
A government too hard on its young players?
In the future, we can imagine that the Chinese government may tighten its restrictions on its players a little more, and it did not hesitate to put in place several measures during the summer of 2021.
As indicated a little above, the latter had put in place new rules for underage consumers , with the prohibition for the latter to play more than three hours per week of online video games. If this rule seems quite harsh, it does not stop there since minors are only entitled to one so-called authorized hour: between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
