After No Build mode, what if Fortnite's next big change is camera position? Epic Games' Battle Royale has always existed as a third-person shooter (your camera is placed a few meters behind the character you play). But according to the very serious dataminer Hypex, the studio is currently looking at first-person gameplay.
Entry into the big leagues?
Most of the very large shooting game licenses use first person. This mode of gameplay really gives the impression of embodying the character, and therefore accentuates the tension felt while playing. CoD and Counter Strike, to name but a few, rely heavily on a first-person approach which gives the game more immersion and nervousness. With the third person, Fortnite has so far been a bit different, but things could change soon.
A real challenge for the Fortnite ecosystem
Fortnite in FPS would be a damn daring challenge for development teams. The game from Epic Games seems somehow incompatible with the first person view, especially in the mode where constructions are allowed. Visually, a high-level FPS boxfight could become downright incomprehensible. In addition, Fortnite bases its economy on skins, and the first person view would (largely) make this aspect of the game invisible.
Anyway, this change (which, by the way, will be a priori optional) is not scheduled for now. Hypex recalls that these are only the first stones of a project. This one has time to refine, before ending up on the servers.
