Released in 2018 on PS4, God of War is a new entry point into the license for players, with evolving gameplay and a story that takes a fresh start after Kratos' adventures in Greece. It is therefore not necessary to have played the previous games, or even to know anything other than the main lines of the story to follow and appreciate this new story in the middle of Norse mythology.
God of War review (2018)
Hats off to Santa Monica Studio for this reinterpretation of the God of War "myth". Far from the beaten track of 3D beat them all that he has already raked up and down through 6 games, Kratos is now heading to the Northern Kingdoms with new, more scripted ambitions. Adios QTE galore and dirigiste progression, the new GoW is stepping up to the action-RPG genre, while retaining some of its most inventive puzzles for small exploration sessions that are always very well rewarded. With its abundant content and its technique to die for, the first big PS4 exclusive of the year hits hard, very hard.
