Games on next-gen consoles are more and more beautiful, more and more long and more and more complete (well almost all of them). The problem is that they are also increasingly heavy on your hard drives. And that of your PlayStation 5 can quickly reach saturation. To overcome this lack of space, Sony is partnering with Western Digital to offer you an SSD specially dedicated to the console.
Two models with an official PlayStation license
It is therefore the Western Digital brand that offers you two SSDs dedicated to the PlayStation 5 of 1 TB and 2 TB – which will allow you to store up to 50 additional PS5 (or PS4) games. This new drive has a read speed of up to 7000MB/s2 and a write speed of up to 5300MB/s2 (for 1TB model)
“We are thrilled to partner with Sony Interactive Entertainment and have the opportunity to bring the only officially licensed unit to PS5 gamers,” said Susan Park, Vice President of Consumer Solutions Product Management at Western. Digital "Western Digital's WD_BLACK brand was created to provide high-performance products to gamers around the world. The purpose of this agreement is to continue our strategy of developing storage solutions that enhance the gaming experience for all players."
Prices too high?
Well, let me tell you that the price has cooled us down a bit. It will cost you 219.99 euros in the 1 TB version and 329.99 euros for the 2 TB version . When we compare these amounts to the prices of the console – 499.99 euros for the PS5 Standard Edition and 399.99 euros for the PS5 Digital Edition – it's hard to pass. As much to buy a standard edition we want to say (if of course you manage to get your hands on it, which is probably the main concern).
If you don't want to deprive yourself of a kidney (even if you basically have two), there are a few alternatives so as not to hurt your wallet too much. Wait for promotions — which will come sooner or later — or turn to SSDs that aren't affiliated with Sony and have been around for a while . We'll let you search, but if you're a tad resourceful, you should find what you're looking for for much less...
