A few days ago, Konami made a more than surprising announcement to its fans eager to rediscover the license after years. The Japanese company has unveiled not one but three video game projects around the horrific universe, thus delighting players and allowing the hype to be revived once and for all. Among all these upcoming games is Silent Hill Townfall.
Developed by NoCode (to whom we owe the excellent Stories Untold) and published by Annapurna Interactive, Silent Hill Townfall is still a mystery. The trailer for the latter shows us a pocket television on which rather gory images are displayed in turn, on the voice of a man saying he is “stuck” in a place, describing the hell he is living. But while we thought we had seen everything about the production, Reddit users discovered a very mysterious hidden message in the trailer in question.
"The heart of this city has stopped"
Shortly after the release of the mysterious trailer for Silent Hill Townfall, Jon McKellan (director of NoCode) suggested to fans of the license that there was much more to discover about it. It was then that MilkManEX , a true video game Sherlock of Reddit, decided to convert the audio of the trailer into mp3 format. While doing this, he discovered a rather...creepy hidden message.
On this first image, we can read "has now stopped" . This is a crazy discovery, which motivated MilkManEX to dig even deeper into the subject, and continue its analysis… indeed, it did well.
After continuing his research, MilkManEX managed to complete the hidden message in question . A complete sentence therefore appears on our screens: “whatever heart this town had has now stopped” , or “whatever heart this town had, it has now stopped” in French. While this hidden transmission is extremely creepy, it's still pretty vague and while it doesn't give much clues to the plot of Silent Hill Townfall, it was enough to fuel fan theories.
An ARG in the making?
Of course, these are only theories and nothing has yet been confirmed by the production teams of Silent Hill Townfall. Many believe that this discovery marks the beginning of an ARG (augmented reality game) . To quickly summarize these, they are often puzzles or intrigues using real life as an intermediary to the unfolding of the story of a production. In this case, the No Code teams would have created this ARG in order to let players try to find out more about Konami's future production. Who knows, maybe even a large part of the plot of the latter is hidden in our world?
In any case, it would not be totally at odds with the habits of the studios. In the past, most No Code productions were based around mysteries and other highly sought-after puzzles. The company would therefore, once again, turn the brains of its players? For some, Silent Hill Townfall has already begun.
