At the start of the year, Kyoto-based Nintendo stated that no new version of its hybrid console would be released.
However, now they have officially revealed the Nintendo Switch Lite, a more portable version of the Switch that will be available on September 20, 2019.
The smaller console will go on sale for $199 in the United States, and will initially be available in three colours — Turquoise,Yellow and Gray.
The differences between the Classic Switch and the Switch Lite are as follows:
- A more compact chassis for portability.
- A dedicated handheld, with no TV connectivity.
- Integrated controls: there are no removable Joy-Cons.
- An integrated D-Pad instead of separate directional buttons.
- The IR Motion Camera has been removed.
- No HD Rumble feature.
For games such as 1-2 Switch and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, additional Joy-Cons will be required — this goes for any game in which multiple people will play on the same screen.
In addition, a special Pokémon Sword and Shield edition of the Nintendo Switch Lite has been revealed, featuring decals of Zacian and Zamazenta. It goes on sale November 8, 2019.
