The Sparring Gloves aren't the only new feature brought to Teamfight Tactics with Patch 9.18. RiotMort just announced a brand new item distribution system that has already been shipped to the PBE for testing. Loot boxes have now a rarity, and you can actually get consumables or champions out them!
Yeah, we know, that sounds crazy.
What's going to change?
- There are now Common, Uncommon, and Shiny Rare boxes that can drop, each with their own distinct loot tables.
- Items and gold can still drop just like before, but you'll now also get Champions and "Neeko's Help" (name pending). This item allows you to make a 1 copy of any unit which then consumes the item. This should make your dreams of getting that three-stars champion just a little easier.
When is it going to be implemented?
If everything goes as planned, the new item distribution system should be shipped to the live servers with Patch 9.18. It will be the biggest patch of Season 1, so be ready for a LOT of changes!
Why Riot? Why?...
Here at Millenium, while being so enthusiastic about Neeko's Help and the new rarity system, we can't see how dropping a Champion can be compared to an item drop. Since they're so impactful on the game — especially in late-game — we're struggling to see how this new feature would do anything except bringing more RNG into the Convergence.
Do you have a PBE account? Did you try this new system? What do you think about it? Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section!
