The last time we had any information about the next Naughty Dog game — eagerly awaited — was at E3 2018. For the occasion, eleven minutes gameplay was presented to the fans. Something to delight them even if the American developer has been silent on since then.
No release date has yet been announced. This is precisely the information that everyone is waiting for knowing that The Last of Us (Part 1) was released in 2013, i.e. six years ago. It seems that this information could well be given at the State of Play that Sony will be holding on September 24.
It is a short video published today by the official Naughty Dog Twitter account that reveals it.
On this video — where we can see a switchblade, Ellie's favorite weapon — appears the date of the event with the inscription "I'm gonna find...and I'm gonna kill...every last one of them."
All good fans know that this is a reference to the very first trailer presented at PSX 2016 in which Ellie uses this sentence when Joel asks her "What are you doin' Kiddo?"
A new gameplay trailer? Anything new on the main story? Everything's possible, particularly since Neil Druckmann — Vice President of Naughty Dog — also tweeted the video adding "We’ve been silent for too long. It’s time to put an end to that."
Since then, a mini trailer is released every day until the fateful date of September 24.
The latest one refers to Joel and the famous watch that his daughter, Sarah, gave him at the beginning of the game. The inscription is also a benchmark to the same first trailer video just like Ellie's teaser — as a way to close the loop before tonight's State of Play? All this suggests that a new gameplay trailer featuring Joel could be revealed!
There is one thing for sure, do not miss the State of Play that you will be able to follow live in a few hours! We should learn a lot more about Naughy Dog's next game.
