Richard Masters, Interim Chief Executive of Premier League is pleased with the response to last season's ePL and is looking for a similar response this time around with FIFA 20.
“Our inaugural ePremier League season had a great response from fans and clubs. The tournament brought together experienced EA SPORTS FIFA pros and first-time competitors and gave them the unique opportunity to compete and win for their favourite clubs. We are very pleased to be working with our clubs again to build on the momentum from our first ePL season and look forward to welcoming even more fans and EA SPORTS FIFA players to the tournament.”
Last season saw F2Tekkz lift the trophy representing Liverpool FC, who are evidently dominating pitches both physical and virtual. Fans watched Tekkz, real name Donovan Hunt, on Sky Sports, Premier League’s Facebook Watch channel, and the EA Sports FIFA Twitch channel.
Brent Koning, FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner at EA is looking to increase the reach of the ePL.
“The Premier League’s global reach combined with the worldwide player base of EA SPORTS FIFA sets the ePremier League up to be one of the most popular esports tournaments across the industry. Esports drives increased engagement with traditional sport and this ePremier League partnership now gives fans an opportunity to represent or cheer for their favourite club on both the traditional and virtual pitch.”
We're sure that the ePL will go from strength to strength in combination with EA Sports and FIFA 20. Teams are already signing FIFA players on lucrative contracts ahead of the December qualifiers, in an attempt to overthrow F2Tekkz's dominating performances last season.
If the ePL can secure similar streaming rights for the finals of the 19/20 season, they may even surpass the viewing figures from last season.
