While it was one of the best decks of the previous meta, the Highlander Hunter is less dominant with Ashes of Outland. However, with Zixor, Apex Predator, the list remains extremely strong.

Hearthstone Ashes of Outland Deck Guide: Highlander Hunter

The Ashes of Outland expansion has finally arrived in Hearthstone bringing the Demon Hunter — the first new class added to the game in six years of existence!

Obviously, the introduction of this new class shook the meta upside down — especially since Ashes of Outland also introduces two new keywords, as well as a new type of cards: Primes.

With this new meta, the Highlander Hunter is less dominant than he was with Descent of Dragons, but it remains strong nonetheless.

Highlander Hunter — Version 1

New cards: Imprisoned Vilefiend, Imprisoned Felmaw, Scavenger's Ingenuity, Zixor, Apex Predator, Frozen Shadoweaver, Maiev Shadowsong

Highlander Hunter — Version 2

New cards: Imprisoned Felmaw, Scavenger's Ingenuity, Zixor, Apex Predator

Against aggro decks

When you're facing Tempo Demon Hunter or Face Hunter decks, try to get your Blazing Battlemage, Dwarven Sharpshooter, and Injured Tol'Vir. Explosive Trap can also be super useful.

Against slower decks

When you're facing Highlander Mage, Warrior, Rogue, Priest, and mirror matches, it will be slightly different. Blazing Battlemage is still your main target, but you can try getting Phase Stalker, Primordial Explorer, and Dragonbane.

Depending on the meta

Opt for the Frenzied Felwing or the Big Ol' Whelp if you want to build a more aggressive version of this deck. If you're aiming at midrange, you can add Maiev Shadowsong and Bone Wrath.

Depending on the dust cost

Unlike other decks, most Legendary cards of this list are essential/ This deck cannot be really played without Zephrys the Great, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza et Dinotamer Brann. However, you can build an alternative list by using Zixor, Dragonbane, Maiev Shadowsong, or even Siamat.

Tips & Tricks

  • Dragonqueen Alexstrasza can generate Ysera, Unleashed. Be careful: once you played Ysera, Dinotamer Brann and Zephrys won't be able to take effect anymore because of the several Portals filling your deck.
  • With Scavengers' Ingenuity and Diving Gryphon, you can generate a chain of effect, allowing you to easily draw Zixor, Apex Predator
  • Veranas + Unleash the Hounds is a very effective way to clear the board, starting on the 9th turn.

Decks you have to test with Ashes of Outland

Ashes of Outland will be available from April 7. Here is our selection of decks made by professional players or streamers, to have fun once your boosters are open.
