Monster Hunter Rise: How to use the Bow

The most popular ranged weapon in the license, and the second most popular weapon, is the Bow (behind the Longsword). In Monster Hunter Rise, it is entitled to some changes, but as in the majority of cases, its gameplay is modelled on that of Monster Hunter World. In addition to the new features introduced with the WIrebug, the attack sequences have changed a bit. Probably the biggest change is the overhaul of the barrage, instead of raining down on the stunning coconuts it unleashes a healing aura on allies in the area. It is possible that different versions exist depending on the chosen arc, for example a damage bonus, or the return of the coconut rain. The Arc therefore gains an unexpected support aspect in Monster Hunter Rise. In any case, the Bow remains a weapon that requires you to measure your range well, to chain dodges as needed and above all, to manage your endurance well during your attack cycle, since it consumes it.

You can discover the full video tutorial above by a game expert, Altair, whose Youtube and Twitch channel you can find if you want to follow his hunting parties.

Below are the basic controls, combos and techniques, there are more to unlock in the full game, the Switch Skill.

Coating: When using a coating, its effect will be applied to your shots.

  • Paralysis Vial: Inflicts paralysis.
  • Poison Coating: Inflicts poison.
  • Sleep Coating: Inflicts sleep.
  • Blast Coating: Explodes on impact.
  • Exhaust Coating: Inflicts lethargy and dizziness.

Combos

  • Arc Shot: Hold ZR> ZR + A
  • Absolute Power Shot: Hold ZR> Release ZR> A (quickly)
  • Charging Step: ZR> L + B> A> A

Wirebug techniques

Each weapon has several special abilities that make use of the Wirebug, it looks like other variations can be chosen as you progress through the full game.

  • Focus Shot: R + X  Use a Wirebug to dodge back and crouch. As you crouch, stamina regenerates quickly. Done at the right time, this attack negates an enemy attack by dodging. The left stick also allows you to change the direction of the dodge.
  • Herculean Draw: R + A Launch in the chosen direction. The attack is also improved for a time. (Wirebug gauge cost: 2)
