Monster Hunter Rise: How to use the Heavy Bowgun

An alternative for those who prefer to take on monsters from afar is the Heavy Bowgun , it's a slow reloading weapon that is hard to move with, but the damage it can deal is monstrous with the right strategy. In Monster Hunter Rise, the basis of the gameplay does not change compared to Monster Hunter World, but some major changes have been incorporated. First of all, the ability to jump sideways in a chain, which significantly improves mobility and survival with this weapon. The second change is the ability to load almost any type of ammp, which feels like using a cannon rather than a heavy machine gun in this case. To all of this is added the Wirebugs, which introduces some fantastic additional options, such as a full block accompanied by a counterattack. The Heavy Bowgun promises to be very powerful once again.

At the moment we are delivering the basic commands and techniques here, there are more hidden or unlockable in the full game. It is also too early to say the best way to play this weapon. It is nevertheless a good starting point.

Special

Ammunition : Each model of the Heavy Bowgun has its own ammunition depending on the type. The amount of ammunition of each type that can be carried on a mission is limited. You can find them in the Supply Box at Camp, and you can also craft them in the field through the Crafting UI or a shortcut.

Special ammunition : There are two variations, a short/medium range which behaves like a heavy machine gun and which allows you to move, with very fast shots. The other mode is a sniper fire with piercing damage that is devastating at long range.

Wirebug techniques

Each weapon has several special abilities that make use of the Filoptera, it looks like other variations can be chosen as you progress through the full game.

  • R + X : Anchor-guard . Absorb an attack without taking damage. Chain with Zr to shoot. (Filoptera gauge cost: 2)
  • R + A : Free flight silk tie . Use a Filoptera to propel you in one direction while allowing you to take action. Y + X : Chain with a melee attack. A : Chain with a quick sheathing.
