The Valstrax is featured in the Monster Hunter Rise 3.0 patch. In this guide, we cover its weaknesses, and the best tips to beat it.

Monster Hunter Rise: How To Defeat Valstrax

One of the most awaited monsters is back with the new Monster Hunter Rise 3.0 update. But here, it is a mutant variant that attacks Kamura: the Scarlet Valstrax. This incredibly fast monster can change areas and attack with unprecedented speed.

Unlock the Scarlet Valstrax

As is often the case with very high level monsters in Monster Hunter, you will have to farm to deserve to face him and have access to his urgent quest. You must have beaten Narwa the mother of all at rank 50, then you must increase your hunter rank to 100 . Suffice to say that we will have to play for a while. We remind you that you can quickly increase your Hunter Rank by achieving an S + score in 7 Red Star Calamity Mode in Multiplayer. It's relatively quick and easy that way.

Fight against the Valstrax

It's a pretty tough and stressful fight since Valstrax attacks hurt a lot. Even with fully upgraded equipment, with all the defense bonuses available, some attacks are capable of killing you really fast. Be sure to keep your life level high and dodge the attacks that really need to be dodged like the Mega Laser or the Aerial Ambush. You can use the animations of the wings, their position, and their activation level to get an idea of what attacks are coming. There are very few attacks that Valstrax doesn't use.

In the melee, Valstrax likes to attack with the tips of his wings. He lands two hits in a row, so wait for the second before releasing or doing a Wirebug recovery, or the same thing might happen to you as on Nargacuga by example. Getting to the sides or behind him can give you a bit more time to react when he's planning an attack.

One of Valstrax's favorite attacks is his charge through the area, which is very difficult to dodge without anticipating it. Taking a forward dive is a good solution in this case. Having multiple points in the Invulnerability talent which increases the dodge invulnerability window can help. If it fires up its reactors and hovers in the area, he will do aerial charges at you from one end of the area to the other. Multiplying the dives ahead of time it arises can help survival.

The Draconic Energy attacks of Valstrax are very painful too: his wings and body will glow red when he's ready to use them. The series of red balls are easy to dodge, but remember that they explode on the ground after a few moments. One should be warier of explosions which it can produce at close range with them. For example, if you are in melee or front of him, he will propel you into the air with a first explosion, then he will follow up by attacking you in the air with a second explosion produced by his other wing. You have to be very fast and use a Wirebug if it is available before undergoing the second attack.

When Valstrax points all its engines forward and they glow, he's probably preparing its Mega Laser. You really don't want to take it. If you get hit, stay down for a while, this attack can hit you several times, between the original beam and the moment it raises it before lowering it. Surviving one hit from the beam is possible, but probably not two.

The ultimate attack of Valstrax is an ambush. He will ignite its engines and suddenly take off. Then, he will then fly at high altitudes, form a loop, and fall on you like a meteor. Point the camera skyward directly at the point of flight to see where he is, then as he begins his descent, dive forward. You should be aware that he accelerates toward the end, so the impact tends to come faster than expected. If you have a good sense of timing, be aware that this attack can be countered and blocked by certain abilities. If you can't see Valstrax in the sky, you may be in danger. You have a little more than 5 seconds between the takeoff and the crash. A message on the right side of the screen will warn you when it launches the technique since it can be mistaken for a simple area change. Be aware that later, if you face another monster with Valstrax present on the map, it is likely that he will enter the area by directly activating his ambush in the air: in this case, count the seconds after the ambush message appears and then dive to 4-5 seconds. If you're really struggling, you can teleport yourself to camp as soon as he triggers this attack.

Like many other monsters, Valstrax is vulnerable to attacks aimed at its head. By doing enough damage to his head, you can regularly knock it to the ground, which will give you great opportunities to attack him.

His other especially vulnerable spot is his torso when it glows red. You will see him channel his energy and the center of his torso will glow. If you attack him at this point, he will explode: give him some damage and knock him to the ground!
