Elden Ring Boss Guide: How to beat Margit the Fell Omen
0

The final boss of the Elden Ring beta, Margit the Fell Omen is a tough opponent, with moves that are as formidable as they are varied. Here's how to defeat him.

For the majority of players in the Elden Ring beta, Margit the Fell Omen was the final act.

As the guardian of the entrance to the Legacy Dungeon: Stormveil Castle, Margit isn't an optional boss. Here's where you'll find him.

Preparation

Here's what we think are the best ways to prepare for Margit the Fell Omen.

  • Class: The Enchanted Knight is probably the best choice, as it has some of the best armor and most importantly, the best shield in the game -- the only one to offer 100% physical damage reduction. The advantage of the shield is that apart from a few super attacks, it will block all damage. If you're not very good at dodging, it will absolutely be your savior. In addition, you can cast spells from afar, which will make it much harder for the boss to attack you. However, it's not entirely harmless - its throwing daggers and enormous jumping hammer blows can affect you from afar. Other classes have their pros and cons, but they can all kill him, if you play them right.
  • Armor: More important than armor is to maintain a medium or even light Equip Load (displayed on the right when you are in the equipment panel). This will determine what type of roll you can perform. Dodging hits with the heavy roll is next to impossible, and no amount of armor can compete with a successfully dodged hit. The Bloody Wolf armor can be found in a northern mercenary camp, a little east of the Gate, while the Carian Knight set can be found in a chest after the Pumpkin Head boss. These are great options that are not overly burdensome, if you invest a minimum number of points into the Strength stat. If you have a lot of Strength, the heavy Crucible set is an excellent option.
  • Weapon: This choice will depend on your playstyle, but a spear, such as the one sold in the church, is the best if you're betting on blocking. The important thing is to apply Ashes of War, which maximize your damage and give access to decent secondary skills. The Barricade Shield, obtained from Bloodhound Knight Darriwil, is an excellent option. In any case, consider taking a walk through the Church to improve your weapon, and even use the anvil to upgrade your shield.
  • Summons: A good Spirit can make all the difference. The limitations of the Lone Wolves are evident in this fight, while the Noble Sorceror may be a better choice due to its ranged nature. However, the best by far is the Northern Mercenary. Despite requiring 100 CP to be summoned, it is very powerful. You can find it in the Murkwater Catacombs, in the northeast of the map.
  • Consumables: Use the materials you've collected to make Bone Knives, Fire Grease, and even Poisonbone Arrows.

Combat

  • Margit the Fell Omen is a boss who combines raw strength and agility, so taking it down is no easy task. His hammer blows have an immense reach, whether directly in front of him or swept around him. Combine this with his giant leaps, you can never consider yourself completely immune.
  • When you're out of melee range, Margit also enjoys throwing two quite painful Light-based daggers. They're hard to dodge when you're not anticipating them, so learn to block preemptively with the shield if your reflexes are not too good.
  • One of the things that makes this fight difficult is that the pace of Margit's attacks is erratic. Some attacks come very quickly, others come very late, such as at the end of a dodge roll. His charged vertical hammer blow is a notable and deadly example of this. There is no miracle solution -- you have to either block what can be blocked, or dodge everything. There is no shame in repeating the boss several times in order to learn the timing of his attacks and chains.
  • Unlike most bosses, positioning behind Margit is unfortunately not such a significant advantage, since he will use his tail to perform a spinning attack. It's still better than taking a hammer blow on the chin, but it is almost impossible to avoid.
  • When you deal enough damage, you'll hear a sound and Margit will drop to his knees. By positioning yourself in front of him within melee range and pressing R1, you will unleash a devastating critical attack.
  • When Margit's health is low enough (around 50%), he'll comment on your achievements. He'll then begin to temporarily summon other golden weapons, including a sword and hammer. The hammer is especially dangerous, since it allows him to perform a huge leaping attack followed by a shockwave that covers a large area. Whether you block it or not, you will be staggered.

Rewards

You'll earn a sizeable 8,000 Runes for victory, and access to Stormveil Castle.

Afterwards you can explore a bit more, and you are given two choices. Taking the main gate is pretty much suicide, excruciatingly unfair and punitive fighting awaits you, but if you're up for the challenge it's interesting.

The side passage is more balanced, and it also leads to the Many-Armed Key Master mini-boss.

Elden Ring Boss Guide: How to beat the Many Armed Key Master

An unavoidable boss if you take the side entrance into Elden Ring's Stormveil Castle, the Many Armed Key Master is likely to prove a challenge. Here's how you can take it down.
