Relatively unnoticed by most casual players, the brand new feature added to fishing rods at the beginning of the month — to fish for items placed on the ground — is being highly used by Fortnite's pro players.
Superstar Tfue showed how overpowered the fishing rod was in late game, and its relevance in meta. During the end of an FNCS game this weekend, the player took advantage of his height to fish for a rocket launcher placed about 20 meters away from him.
Other uses of the fishing rod are also becoming known. On Reddit, some users highlight the fishing rod as an additional inventory. Even with all your material gauges fully filled to the rim, it's still possible to carry stacks of materials across the map using the fishing rod.
The fishing rod — which takes up an inventory slot — hasn't been very successful so far, especially when compared to another new item in Chapter 2: the Bandage Bazooka. In squads, the latter brings an infinite sustain to your team, making it extremely popular amongs professional players.
It remains to be seen whether the new fishing mechanics will manage to win the hearts of casual players.
